Will writing

Available after your estate administration case reaches the distribution phase. A guided wizard creates a legally valid will for England and Wales — suitable for straightforward circumstances.

Will writing is suitable for straightforward estates only. If you have a second marriage, children from multiple relationships, significant business assets, or foreign property, we recommend using a solicitor.

Compared to a solicitor

Typical solicitor fees: £2,000–£10,000

Probate solicitors typically charge 1–3% of the gross estate value plus VAT, or hourly rates of £200–£400. For a £300,000 estate, that can be £3,000–£9,000. For a straightforward estate, TidyEstate does the same paperwork generation work for £79 — leaving more for beneficiaries.

TidyEstate is not a replacement for a solicitor in complex cases. We flag complexity and tell you when a regulated solicitor is needed.

Pricing questions

Is the £79 per case or per user?
Per case (per estate). If you have multiple estates to administer — for example, both parents — each case requires a separate £79 payment. Co-executors don't need to pay separately; the case is unlocked for everyone once one executor pays.
When do I need to pay?
You don't pay anything until you're ready to generate documents. You can build your full estate profile, calculate IHT, track tasks, store your paperwork and invite co-executors entirely for free. The £79 is charged when you click to generate a document for the first time.
Is there a subscription or renewal fee?
No. The £79 is a one-time payment per case. You keep access to your generated documents and the full guided workflow for as long as your account is active — no renewal, no monthly fee.
What's covered by the £79?
For one estate: every answer for the gov.uk online probate application, prepared from your estate; bulk-generate institution notification letters (banks, hmrc, dvla, pension providers) as one printable pdf. There's no extra fee for generating multiple documents within the same case.
Can I get a refund?
If you've paid but haven't yet generated any documents, contact us within 14 days for a full refund. Once documents have been generated, refunds are assessed case-by-case. Email [email protected].
Is VAT included in the price?
At launch, TidyEstate is below the VAT registration threshold. The £79 price is the total you pay — there is no VAT added. If VAT registration becomes required, we'll give advance notice before any price change.
